why i’m here…
BEFORE “AD ROSE FIT”: Raised in Pennsylvania, I left for warmer weather and a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from East Carolina University. Initially I had no interest in being a personal trainer - I just knew I was passionate about helping people love their bodies through exercise. I dabbled in nutrition, cancer research, physical therapy, athletic training, and psychology. After passing the American College of Sports Medicine Personal Trainer certification, I took a Corporate Wellness position in Philadelphia until I was accepted as a Health Fitness Specialist intern at Hilton Head Health (#1 Weight Loss Resort in American, at the time). In 2013 I moved to Charleston, SC to assist in the opening of a spin studio while creating my own brand and business:
AK47FIT - Wellness Coaching for Every Body.
I wanted to make it my mission that no one, woman or man, would look in the mirror and hate their body. I began personal training clients and teaching nutritional and lifestyle wellness.
2013-2018
During this time period I struggled with a myriad of symptoms - unexplained weight fluctuations, bouncing between fatigue and anxiety, acne, sleep disturbances, anxiety and irritability - to name a few (all now accredited to hormonal imbalances). I visited OBGYNS, fertility specialists, nutritionists, dermatologists, and did blood testing. Almost all of them said something like “you look fine to me” except for one who did a Dutch Hormone Test and found my hormones were out of wack. There weren’t enough wellness professionals educated and educating on this topic, so I decided then that I wanted to contribute these answers to the fitness industry. I continued to meet with doctors and specialists so that I could understand what factors create hormonal imbalances and how to solve them.
2018 - 2021 TRANSITION PERIOD
I finally felt healthy physically and mentally. After healing my own body (through constant research, trial & error, and a collection of specialist’s advice), I started implementing what I learned into my personal training. The focus of my coaching became even more holistic than before and I honed in specifically on female’s needs. My success healing my own physical and mental health made me feel strong in a way no squat rack could accomplish. It’s a freeing feeling and I have a strong passion to help others get here.
2021 - AD ROSE
The rebrand. In addition to my female health direction, my last name was changing (the K in AK47fit being no-more) and arose a new name. Female fitness is now my #1 priority. The fitness & wellness community is growing, but it’s lacking guidance and education on women’s bodies. Intensity of workouts, rest, and nutrition for women is NOT the same as a man’s. Our biomechanics look the same, but not our physiology.
So, with AD ROSE FIT, I am hoping to reach the women who feel like they’re doing everything right, the women who look in the mirror and are frustrated with what they see, the women who are tired, the women who binge eat because they restrict themselves in order to shrink their bodies, the women who feel guilt when they skip a workout or eat an extra couple bites, the women who are held back from everything the world has to offer because of their insecurities. We all deserve to feel confident, healthy, and secure enough to not feel held back from all the that life has to offer.
Yours Truly,
Adelie Rose Duffy
